It's the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!I'm still feeling generous so I thought I would share more fabric. It would make sense, then, to show you the fabric I plan to give away. Yes, that would make perfect sense. Unfortunately, my camera is not cooperating right now so I can't download the photos. You'll just have to trust me.
Come on, you know I can pick the good stuff. I love putting together based on colour and feel. In fact, quite often I will just pull fabric from my stash for some imaginary quilt. Maybe I'll bring home a new fabric that I bought just because. Just because I liked it. So I hit the stash and see what I have that works with it. Maybe I'll even put that grouping aside for a while and let it simmer. Maybe I'll let The Monster help me and see what she comes up with. Maybe I'll even start a project then and there. No pattern, no plan, just a pile of fabric and a little inspiration along the way.

I always see a design I like, and then I decide on fabric. (Apart from my first quilt... that was born from a packet of scraps from a quilting shop.)

I usually fall in love with fabric and then try to find a pattern but I've been known to buy fabric after seeing a great pattern. So there's no rhyme or reason to my madness! I would love the red/aqua colorway if I was lucky enough to win.
It's the 27th already - great now I really have to get well to prepare my giveaway.
For me, I prefer to use bundles be it FQs, layer cakes. I am away from any goodies and the shipping cost a bomb.

I've done quilts both by pattern first and by fabric first. Mostly they are motivated by a recipient tho.
I always end up making quilts with yellow and pink...but red and aqua is my favorite to look at :)

I quilt awful messily, so the fabric comes before the pattern. I usually see two scraps laying together and go: hey! that looks nice! And start grabing and pieceing from there.
And I must say, I love red and aqua.
Hi, I love a surprise, and while I like ALL the colour combinations *smile*, I've been wanting to make a brown/blue quilt for a while, I've seen some beautiful examples online.
I've picked fabrics both ways: pattern first, or fabric first. Usually I pick one fabric I really love and either stash-match or buy matching fabrics depending on what I need for a pattern (once I make up my mind about a pattern).

I don't do the same thing every time. Of course I love fabric so most of the time the fabric comes first. I open the cabinet with my fabric and look at what speaks to me. Or sometimes I buy a fabric and come home and find something to go with it. I guess my favorite combination is green/blue but I also like red/aqua.
I pick the color based on the person I'm giving the quilt to since a lot of people have very specific taste.

I think I wander around in a daze then something speaks to me and I'm off. (usually it's a pattern with certain shapes or colours) My preferred colours would be brown/blue. Thanks for being so generous.

So far I pick the pattern first, but I am a new quilter so need the safety net! As far as color, so far I have made several green/blue and brown/blue things, so I would like to try something different. Any of the other color combos would work, I trust you! :-)

I would have to say Red/Aqua. I usually need to know who or what the purpose of the quilt is before I pick fabric or design. But, after that, its a toss up! Sometimes I look for fabric to make a specific quilt, other times its the perfect quilt for the fabric! Thanks for letting me play!

I work both ways... sometimes I visualize what I want to make then pick the fabrics, other times the fabric inspires me. As for colors, I love them all but for today I will pick brown and blue.
That's a hard one. Sometimes the fabric comes from the design, but mostly I think that it's the other way round for me, like finding the right shoes and then dress shopping...probably I'm doing both ass-backwards.
I'm also QUITE taken by the red/aqua combo, but I'm not sure i'm brave enough to make it the focus of a whole thing.

usually i pick the fabric before i pick the quilt...which gets me in trouble because then i usually do not have as much as i need and need to scramble off to the fabric shop for more. i think the red/aqua combination "speaks" to me the most

Honestly I'm so bad at putting colours together that i usually just buy from the same collection to make sure it all goes together. Sad I know but I'm new to quilting still, so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! I would love either green/brown or blue/brown, but after seeing your stuff, i trust anything you pick. I definately choose fabrics first and then figure out what I am going to make with them. I have to like the prints and patterns and colors in order to be inspired to make something. I love prints from Amy Butler, Heather Ross and Anna Maria Horner. I could buy their stuff all day and make a zillion different things from it.

Great giveaway, I love surprises... I'd love any color way... I choose fabric based around a single fabric that I'm loving or want to incorporate. Often it involves a very scientific laying of fabric on the floor of my loft or the fabric store (Quilter's Corner, how I love your patience!). Often, I'm inspired by blogs and ideas also, so I love the entry into so many blogs that happens on Giveaway Day...

I'm a total fabric junkie, I'll buy it just because it looks cool and figure out what to do with it later. The couple of times I've tried to buy fabric after picking the design I haven't been happy with my choices. I think it's because I try to force the fabrics to fit the project and if I just waited and shopped around I'd be happier with my choices.

I do both sometimes I pick the pattern first and then select fabric. Other times it is the other way around. I'm not tied to one color but I do find that I have a lot of green and pink in my stash. So those must be some of my favorites.

I used to pick the pattern first and then the fabric, but in the last 6 months or so (since I've discovered online shopping for designer fabric - I'm in rural Canada so no cool fabric shops) I've switched it up! Now I choose fabric and then decide what to do.

I usually start w/ an inspiration fabric & built a quilt from there. I'm not too good at following patterns directly.
I can always use more fabrics in the green/orange/yellow color range since I work with them so much.
i use all the methods you mentioned, sometimes another quilt will inspire me, sometimes it's a fabric or two or three, and sometimes i'll find a pattern and i'll dig into my stash to create something.
i need more brown and blue in my stash so i'll go with those!

I always have a backlog of family quilts i'm supposed to be making, so I pick the fabric based on who it's for. If they are a distant relative or a child, I don't use the good stuff! Is that wrong?

I haven't made a quilt yet, but I have plans to make a doll quilt for my niece. I have the fabrics now and need to choose the pattern. So I guess I would be the choose the fabric first type of person. I prefer a green/blue colourway.

I have actually never made a quilt, but have been wanting to try my hand at it. I do sew lots of children's clothes. For that, usually I buy fabric that I love without knowing exactly what I might do with it, and decide on a specific pattern to make from the fabric later. I'm kind of compulsive.

green/orange/yellow would be my choice. Sometimes the fabric inspires the design I pick and sometime the design comes first. Right now I am into zig zag quilts using bright colors.
I can go either way in the selection of my projects but probably lean more towards the pattern first then the fabric. I lean towards green/blue colorways

I am just venturing into the world of quilting, but I would have to say that the fabric determines the pattern for me right now.
And as for colorways, it is so hard to choose! I think green/blue or red/aqua would be my choice--I know that isn't choosing one, but I can't choose just one!
Fabric definitely comes first. I love red / aqua.
I choose the main color based on my mood and then build the rest around that. (I am a sucker for paisley so that's often the main fabric!)

I have only made a few quilts, but I have picked fabrics several ways. For my first large quilt, I picked a pattern and then fabric. For my most recent one, I picked a fabric and then figured out how to feature it. Of the choices you have given, I think I would go with brown/blue as my preference.

I pick fabrics based on who or what the project is for, and based on that here is usually a theme. somehow my theme for my new baby boy went from rock star (think the entire michael miller rock star collection) to modern funky jungle (think joann generics with lime greens and jungle greens, blues and brown) I think thas my favorite color way right now, shades of green and blue. although, pink and yellow always reminds me of lemonade ;)
Anything with blues in it....although I'm tempted by the green orange yellow....but I'll say either green/blue or brown/blue.

I usually get inspired by a single fabric. Lately I've done six or so orange/yellow quilts- all inspired by a single thrift store pillowcase. It's definately time to move on to another colorway. Blue/Green is about as far away as it gets.

When it comes to quilting, the fabric usually picks me. I start with an inspiration piece and work around that. I'm starting to build my stash for a pink, yellow, orange quilt (based on some Heather Ross fabric!) and so I'd prefer that colorway.

I generally choose two or three fabrics I love and then match them with other, less in your face prints. Sometimes the design of the quilt does influence - using a large print on a small scrappy quilt wouldn't make the most of it so I'd tend to chose a small print.

Depends on the quilt. My last quilt was driven by color (and any fabric that I could find in the right shade of blurple). Usually I just find 1 fabric that I love and work around that.

Right now I choose the fabric first. I would probably do Red/Aqua because I am working on a quilt now with green/brown/blue.
I usually spy something in a store, grab it and go from there...when I made a colorway quilt, I noticed I don't have a lot of Green/Orange/Yellow. I love all three of those colors, I guess I just haven't found much at my local store that I love.

I always find (or dig out) a piece of fabric and love it, because I love all fabric, and then I think "what can I do with this, and what will go nicely with it?" It's a pretty random process sometimes, but I'm happy with it. Right now I'm very much into blue/brown. Thanks!!!

i've never quilted. i just started sewing a few months ago and so far have made mostly clothes for my two girls and myself with a few plushies in the mix. I buy fabric and let it inspire me as to what it wants to become, that's why I love the thrift stores so much! I like to mix vintage fabrics with all the great new stuff that is out there.

Oh, definitely the fabric first. And then invariably I run out! But improvising always helps my design so it's okay.

I go both ways (first time I have sad that on a blog comment ;-) )
Sometimes I see a piece of fabric and start there, pulling and playing with the stash until I have a happy pile and an idea of what to do with it.
And sometimes a design or pattern strikes my eye, and I pull from the stash with that in mind.
Truly, I have to say, pulling from the stash is one of the best parts of the entire process!
I'm loving the green! When I pick for a quilt it is always the fabric first... I'm a magpie! The size of the pattern generally influences me next and I trawl my books for blocks that will 'fit' :)
i always always start with colour. sounds like we choose our fabrics for projects in the same way, what we like, match it up, have some fun, then choose a project ;) i'd go for yellow/orange/green, sounds happy + fresh to me!

The fabric comes first for me and helps determine the design. I LOVE the blue/brown colorways.
I don't quilt because it scares me I hope you don't hold it against me. But I love to sew and I love greens and blues.
Mmmh, when I'm picking colors for a quilt, it's always been pattern first. Maybe I should try it the other way around and see what results!

I am just starting to get a grasp on color and quilting (I'm mostly a knitter), so up until now I just spend time pulling what I like and putting it together. No real plan involved. Red aqua sounds gorgeous- I pick fabric based on patterns, really- then I try to match as I go :)
hmmm. I've never made a quilt but I'd probably work from stash and just pick a pattern to fit what I'm working with. At least, that's how I knit. I would love some blues and greens to make my first quilt.

It depends on what I'm doing whether the pattern or the fabric comes first. Recently I started with a grouping using a pattern for a queen size quilt, then made two baby quilts out of the rest without a pattern.

i just taught myself to sew last year, and one of my 2 new year's resolutions this year was to make a quilt. (the other was to teach myself to knit - and that one has been conquered.) i have yet to start my quilt - so that is my summer sewing project!! so i've been scouring the web looking at patterns and colors...i'm thinking i LOVE red and aqua together, and they would go great in my house. now i just have to pick a pattern!!!

I'm new to quilting and have only done 2 crib sized ones for shower gifts. So far I just go to the only fabric store in town with colors in mind and start picking. Not very creative.

Good question! Mostly the fabric comes first these days -- once upon a time, when I first began to design quilts (twenty-five or more years ago), the design came first. Now the colors and print textures of the fabric draw me in and the designs follow. :)
My current favorite color combo is pink, yellow, orange/peach. ;)

I have only made a few quilts at this point, but they have all been for specific people and specific tastes so i have gone out with a plan in mind. That being said, I am kind of impulse and may make last minute additions if I see a fabric I like. Lately I have been having a lot of fun with browns and aquas.
I'm brand new to sewing, but I aspire to quilting soon. I'm drawn to color combinations more than patterns. I love blue and brown!

I like to start with an idea for both colors and pattern - but they deffinatly both meld and morph until i get the perfect fabrics with the perfectly matching pattern! I have never worked with the red and aqua but am deffently intreged by it!

I've gone both ways--shopping for fabric for a pattern and shopping for a pattern for some fabric I fell in love with! As for colors, I usually prefer green/blue, but lately I've been seeing lots of red/aqua quilts that I've loved!

Ummm, I will take any of the above! I have so many quilts planned it is ridiculous! Sometimes I pick fabric I love without anything specific in mind, other times I find a pattern I love and then find the perfect fabric to make it with.

Hmmm, I guess the fabric comes first. I see it, I like it and then I figure out what pattern it might work with before I buy it. And recently, I've really been into brown and blue. You know, sort of like a bruise!

I've not made many quilts (yet!) but the one currently cooking in my head is based on a multi coloured print, and I'm looking for other mono colour prints of solid to build around that print.
And I'm loving all the aqua and red quilts I'm seeing out there in blogland, gonna have to get me some!
green/orange/yellow. i've had it go both ways. sometimes a fabric just calls out to me and i find a pattern afterwards. other times i find a pattern i love and spend hours in the quilt shop looking for just the right print.
I'm on a green/blue kick right now. I almost always buy fabric that strikes me and then decide what to do with it later!
