In the Mall

You may not know this about me, but I am from Edmonton. Home to the largest mall in the world. Yes, I think that still gets debated with those folks in Minnesota, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I don't like the mall much, but where else can you eat, shoot guns, ice skate, ride a roller coaster and a waterslide, and still shop? At one point you could drive go-carts and go on a submarine too. But the animals are gone.

This is totally not quilt, family, or food related. There are no gratuitous reno shots or platitudes about creativity in today's post.

Just go here.

Thank you for linking to this - memories of my 8 years in Edmonton are flooding back, including an August vacation with my parents (I was at UofA)that was supposed to be a camping trip and turned into a trip to the West Ed mall waterpark because it snowed...in AUGUST, and helping to paint the African themed rooms at the Fantasyland Hotel! Yep, 1993 I think it was, we did four rooms. Interesting insider tidbit: There are some zebras whose hind legs disappear behind a light switch plate -- if you were to remove that plate, you'd see that they are wearing rubber boots (or gumboots, as we call them)! We couldn't help ourselves!!

Love your blog, your book, your outlook! xMelinda

I'm not a mall person either. Although I would definitely visit the Edmonton Mall if I ever went there. Having been to Mall of America a couple of times, it is now in the category of "been there, done that." Although when our son was little it was pretty cool to hang around Camp Snoopy (the theme park in the center of the mall) and look at the original home plate of the Minnesota Twins, which they left right where it had been when there was a ball diamond there.

Funny you brought this up, I just bought 3 "theme" room gift certificates for my kids & their families for a Christmas presents. I'm hoping they'll let us tag along too. So much fun to spend a cold winter day in the mall doing all the activities mentioned.

I saw you linked this on your FB account and took a look yesterday. Its super funny and although I haven't lived in Edmonton I've had my fair share of trips to West Ed.
