I need a new iron.
This one is, literally, out of steam. And I like my steam.
Any irons you LOVE out there? I've frankly always gone to Canadian Tire and just grabbed something that looked decent enough. I pay attention to where the cord emerges and whether it will stand easily. It must also have an automatic shut off. But the last two irons haven't lasted long so it might be time to look a little more closely.
Any suggestions?

I usually do the same (but we don't have Canadian Tire here - I miss that store).
I have small travel Rowenta that I bought with points long ago, and it is small, but it gets HOT and it gets hot FAST. I lurves it!
I love my yellow Oliso iron. It's been going strong for more than a year now. I'm in Canada and I ordered it from Anazon.com.
I had to buy a new iron a few months ago. I had a Rowenta that died. (I have since learned that if someone is moaning about a Rowenta it probably came from Mexico or China) and if they LOVE their Rowenta it probably came from Germany...but I spent a fair amount of time trying to decide. I finally had to do SOMEthing, so I researched and figured out the best rated "cheap" iron so I could buy a back up and continue my search for the "best" expensive one. I bought a Black & Decker D2030. It has been awesome! It took the pressure (I put on myself) to find the right iron off and I have been happy enough I quit looking at the expensive ones. LOL.
I just got an Oliso for my birthday, and it steams fabulously. My Rowenta was starting to die, and when I got the Oliso out, it was SOOO nice to have an iron steam properly! The only catch is, Oliso apparently recently changed their manufacturing and had a recall, so I had to return two irons before I got one that was post-recall(first two would get stuck when raising and make an awful grinding noise). But third time's a charm, this one hasn't had any issues! So, if you go that route, just make sure it is post-recall! (Oh, and my mom has had her oliso for almost 2 years and loves it, that's why she got me one!)
I bought a Panasonic NI-S300TR 2 1/2 years ago and I love it. It has a slightly curved soleplate, so you don't get creases along the edges. A retractable cord and automatic shut-off are other great features. I can't speak to the steam feature, however. I've never put water in it! I prefer to use a dry iron and a spray bottle of water for more control and no chance of dribbles. It does get plenty hot, though.
i've had my rowenta for 5+ years and still love it.
I bought a Singer off of Amazon that had very high reviews and the same wattages as the very expensive irons...it was about $50 I think and so far after a year and a half I like it. (And auto-shut off is a manditory feature here w/ all the late night sewing I do)
I just got an Oliso last week. A costly baby, but I sure do love it!
I have a Rowenta. Maybe two years old and I love it still. Important to clean it regularly (as with all steam irons).
Cheryl ,
Hi, I have had a couple rowenta and they were initially we're great buy totally died after a year. Then I went on amazon and found a black and decker. It is awesome and so happy with it.
Good luck!
Linda
I am on my third Rowenta. After a while the first one leaked a lot, so I contacted the company and they said to cut the cord and mail it to them and they would replace it. they did. It worked fine for about 6 months then one day there was no heat at all. I contacted them again and this time they said to mail the iron back to them, I did and very soon a new iron arrived. This one has been fine. i love the weight of them. I really believe if you pay the big bucks for something and it doesn't work, complain to the company who made it. If they don't know there are problems, how can they make their future products better? Even thoughI have had problems, I love my Rowenta!
I have a friend who always buys her irons at Salvation Army or Value Village. She only buys the older, heavy chrome ones.
Cheryl, I finally gave up on buying expensive irons -- no matter how much I paid, after about 10-12 months, they start to leak. Whether I use distilled water or tap water. Even when I bought a stable ironing board and the cats no longer knock the iron off the ironing board.
That said, I DO LOVE LOVE LOVE my Velocity by Reliable. This baby STEAMS (like, keep your fingers away or you'll get burned!). I've had it over a year and so far, no leaks:

I am in the same boat! I REALLY want the Oliso Pro Press Iron!!!
I use a travel Rowenta for my family's clothes
as well as for sewing.
As someone already commented,
it steams great and heats up fast.
And it just zips right around over your fabric and in
corners- sorta like a little sports iron!
It's funny that you should post this now because I just purchased a new iron this week, the DeLonghi Pro300 (http://goo.gl/HKlWd). You can see my blog post about it here: http://bendingpins.com/2012/09/06/delonghi-pro300-trial-run/
BTW, read the reviews on Amazon.com, the Oliso allegedly leaks shortly after purchase and customer service is apparently crap.
I have been through more irons than I care to admit. I even bought a ridiculously expensive (like over $200?) at a show once because the demo was so great (read: demo's ask more questions...) and now I have an Oliso which is wonderful!! HOT! And gets hot FAST! I don't put water in it though - I'm a Best Press girl - and it seems that water is what killed all of my past irons...
I too am a fan of the Reliable Velocity. Mine has been going strong for over a year. Pricey, but it's the best iron I've ever owned. No leaking!
I like Black and Decker also--not expensive and gets hotter than the Rowentas my friends bought to a recent retreat.
I had a Oliso iron and two weeks after the warranty was up it died. It had a meltdown literally and it stunk so badly. When I contacted Ocean Sales (bought it at the stampede) they said too bad, so sad. So, I took my 20% off coupon from Bed Bath & Beyond and bought a made in Germany Rowenta. What a difference! The Oliso has great steam, but it didn't seem to be hot enough. The Rowenta gets hot... I'm happy
I've got a t-fal that so far is going strong...but I don't use it 24 hours a day like some people ;-) No advice for you. I wonder if irons just are not made for super high continue use?
I have a Rowenta, which I love, even though it leaks since my husband dropped it! I also bought a Shark from Canadian Tire when it was 70% off. It's also great, not quite as heavy as the Rowenta, but gets hot, and great steam.
Hi, me again! Just took out my Shark, and then the Rowents. Turns out I prefer the Shark! The model I bought is no longer available, but there is a Shark Pro for $99.99 on the CT website.
One of my favorite Irons was a @5.98 find at Walmart. It lasted as long as the more expensive Irons.
Oh that's too bad. I LOVE my T-Fal. Mine is an ultra-glide.
I tend to buy the cheapest iron that has steam and a cord. Also from CTC. The most recent one cost me $15 and it steams its little brains out for me. I figure that I drop them so often that it's cheaper for me to replace my iron several times when it gives up from abuse, that to have an expensive one that causes me to have heart failure when I knock it over.
