Water Version 4

So, so? Did you see this coming?

I combined v3 with those small bits, focusing on the vertical in them. Ignore the crookedness, but what about the layout?

One of you commented that I take criticism well.  I don't actually see this process as overly critical.  You guys are being honest and kind.  Those of you who are reading and are absolutely hating what you see are probably just keeping it to yourself. Its okay, you can tell me.  I've got incredibly thick skin.

Besides, I am really interested in the opinions.  I'm looking at my own work in a new way. I can't say that I'll do this with every quilt, but it is a fascinating process and I will do it again. Quilt design by blog.

That's pretty neat, I definitely see more of the blues this time. When I saw yesterday's version I thought, maybe hacking up the longer horizontal pieces and pieceing them horizontally again but with different prints matching up. Pretty much what you did with the center strip.

So building on what you did today, how about two or three thinner vertical strips unevenly spaced out amidst the horizontals.

Okay, brutally honest, here I come - I love the fabric choices, but so far none of the layouts have spelled water for me - that's why I've been silent. How about a layout where you zigzag your pieces like waves, similar to a rail fence quilt laid out as zigzag., but not just a blahdiblah zigzag, they could overlap, oh, it's hard to explain, too bad I can't attach a pic. Let's say you have striped pieces, the zig goes up, then down then up etc, then the next row might go down down down up. And your piece are all so different, that maybe even zigzagging them all in the "traditional way would work. Let's see it :)

Cheers,
Christine

#4 does nothing for me. It's too disconnected I think.

I'm also enjoying this process and I'm debating about doing something similar in the future, since it seems like a great way to get different perspectives and ideas!

I don't know that I like this one as much as the last one. I like the movement with the little pieces, but I really liked the calmness of the last one. I'm a Minnesotan who really thinks of water as calm lakes, not necessarily as an overly active substance.

I'm also very intrigued by Christine's idea...

I'm liking this. I was thinking about waving that vertical line, maybe making it a bit bluer but zig zags could do it. yup, ya just might want to let the Sunshine in! 8^)

Hmmm. Well, that's interesting, but it doesn't say 'water' to me. I'm dying to know what your favorite is. When do we get to find out?

You're blowing my mind away. They're all amazing, but I think version 4 of the 5 total is now my favorite.

can i have some of your thick skin? i could use it. it's amazing to see how different one quilt can look by simply rearranging the pieces. i need to try this more.

I like this layout too. I agree that water is horizontal but I think that when you lay the quilt on the bed, it will already be horizontal... SO I'm not sure that makes the world of difference to your layout.
