Gen Q - Warmth

Walking down the hallways of a cold convention center, crowds of quilters, store owners, and designers pushing against me and my baby boy in his Bjorn, I spot a tall man with a very colourful shirt. He picks me out of the crowd and before I can unclip the baby carrier he's stolen my kid. Cuddles ensue.

That's how I met Scott Hansen, from Generation Q and Blue Nickel Studios.

It was at Spring Quilt Market back in May. Generation Q in print was launching into the world, so we both had babies. The big difference is that his baby was allowed on the show floor.

While Gen Q is an ezine and web-site, they are also now a print magazine. Thanks to a tremendous Kickstarter campaign they were able to move from the on-line world to print. People were keen to see the magazine be a success. People backing people. It was a perfect reminder that while quilting may be a business, it is a business backed by people, not fabric.

Of course, I've got another connection to the magazine. Nikolai's quilt is in the premiere issue! We now get to snuggle under the love from Rashida. The pattern is available on-line now.

Now folks, you can get your own copy of Gen Q. Leave a comment here between now and July 11th for a chance to win the premiere issue. Tell me a story about some of your favourite quilting people.

And don't forget to visit the other spots on their anniversary tour.

I love Nyima Lhamo a/k/a Andrea Balosky who came out of "retirement" to make lots of fantastic mini quilts for the Alzheimer's group.

My favorite quilting person no longer quilts, but she was my inspiration in many areas of life. She gifted 2 baby quilts to our family. Sadly one has been stolen. :( I will treasure the other forever, even though our dog ate one corner! haha.

wow I can think of so many favourite quilters but perhaps I will say Di from Willowbeck Designs - we were in all of the same classes at Fat Quarterly retreat and she is an amazing person.

I would love to see a copy of Generation Q! Thanks for the giveaway! Oh, there are so many quilters I admire and love that the Internet allows us to "get to know" so many of them. Crazy Mom quilts was probably the first quilt blog I found and it hooked me for sure, for sure, for sure!

Gosh, I have so many favorites right now - you, Amanda Jean, John Adams, Monica Solario-Snow, Elizabeth Hartman, Camille Roskelley, Weeks Ringle, Katie Petersen, Jacqui Gehrig...

I'd love to have a copy of the premier issue! Thanks for the giveaway. To just pick one quilter is so hard. That's why I love IAQ in Houston in the fall. I get to see all my favorite quilters and every once in a while, I get to take a class from one of them!

Thirty two years ago I gathered up my courage to leave my baby with a sitter and went to a quilting class. We made templates using the cardboard of cereal boxes and cut the pieces out with scissors and stitched by hand. I don't remember her name, but she certainly inspired me!

I have been looking for this in my local fabric shops but haven't seen it yet.
I really like the quilt with both amy and david butler fabrics--I have both in my stash just waiting for something special

I have only made 2 quilts since last April but I am so glad that one of my favorite LQS is owned by the most helpful, enthusiastic gal around (who happened to be an old friend of my sister-in-law) thanks for the chance to win!

Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy of this magazine. I, too, have many favorite quilters - Ami Simms, Pepper Cory, Augusta Cole, Jacqui Gehrig and Camille Roskelley and that's just for starters! It is impossible to choose just one. Each one I take a class from, each one who's blog or book I read, each one whose fabric I use - all of them enrich my quilting life.

My favorite quilting person is the local longarmer Terri. She is amazing and so willing to be a mentor for me.

Hands down, my grandmother. She taught me all her tricks, gifted me a sewing machine and all the little bits to get me going, and every Christmas I get a little gift card to add to my fabric hoard. I love getting together to share our latest bits of sewing and sharing ideas, because she's still coming up with some great ones.

Thanks for the chance!

My favorite quilter is my mother. She started indoctrinating me at a tender age and I've always loved quilts. That's what everyone used for bedding. Now, she is my in-house quilt instructor and we both make quilts. Her grandkids and greatgranddaughters are all getting quilt bitten too. The oldest GGD who just turned 7 is "making" her first quilt.

I've been anxiously awaiting the print version of Generation Q! Thanks for the chance to win! No one in my family has ever quilted but me, but my favorite quilt people have to be my first small bee. Those women - all at least 10 years older than me - took me under their wing when I first began to quilt and made me feel so welcome and part of their group and taught me so much. I will never forget them.

My favorite was my grandmother. I still a quilt and want to learn how to repair it or make it part of something new.

My 3 sisters are my favorite quilting people. My youngest sister got me started quilting about 5 years ago - she wanted to do a round robin. We've been doing block exchanges & robins every year since then. We live in 4 different states & it keeps us connected. Thanks for the chance to win.

My favorite quilter is Suzanne, who owned our LQS (now closed). Although, she left the quilting business to become a math teacher, her warm and friendly manner encouraged me to "Never worry about what other people think of your quilt if it makes you happy."

My favorite quilting people are the ladies in our "Sit & Sew" group. We meet at my Aunt's home every Thursday-- and just enjoy the time together-- sewing.. and visiting! :-) There are a few in the group who do not sew, but they definitely add to our group and we all just enjoy our time together! :-)

My grandmother, she started me sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidering and anyhing else you could do with a needle and thread. I was about 6 when she started to teach me. I miss the lessons!

I don't know any well known quilters but am very thankful to all those lesser known ones that I have known in person that have encouraged me and still do. I am also thankful for all those bloggers out there that continually inspire me. This looks like a great magazine.

I don't know any quilters but my favourite quilty people are the bloggers that first inspired me to start quilting - people like you & Amanda Jean, Elizabeth Hartmen & Jacquie Gering. I especially like that you have all become published authors with lots of books sold. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this great magazine.

I don't know any quilters very well. Of course I know the ones in the local quilt shops, but I just ask them about the merchandise. However, I do feel like I know quilters through their blogs. Some very entertaining bloggers out there!

I don't have a favorite quilter but my great grandmother was my favorite seamstress! I don't know if she ever made quilts but I remember as a child all the wonderful barbie clothes she made for me.

One of my quilting influences has been Mary Ellen Hopkins who taught me, among other things, to appreciate the simpler patterns and not be afraid to use color for impact. soparkaveataoldotcom

I am lucky enough to belong to a quilting group that has taught me so much. We are always having a great time quilting, shopping or laughing together.

I have to say that one of my favorite Quilting people is Eleanor Burns. Her Quilt in A Day method made quilting so much easier for me. Plus she is a very fun and entertaining lady.

This looks a great magazine!
Katy Jones (imagingermonkey) is a great quilter!

The baby with the magazine is just a hoot! My favorite quilting person was my mom. I taught her about quilting and we found the common ground that was always missing in our relationship. We would share what we learned and pick each other's brains when there was a problem. She passed away in 2001 so it's hard when I can't share my newest wacky quilt with her.

There's a sweet owner at the local fabric store. She loves hearing about and seeing projects her customers are working on. She's also great with my kids, which is good because sometimes they like to run around and hide from me in the store!
