Round Robin - Start

Just a simple block. In the next 4 months it should turn into something pretty cool.

You see, I do belong to a traditional guild as well as our Calgary Modern Quilt Guild (Sew Night on this Saturday!). In an effort to push myself outside of my little box of creating, I decided to join this year's round robin. It is really pushing me out of my box as most of these ladies are quite traditional quilters. Amazing work and a very fun group of women, but still quite traditional in quilting style.

This block, mine, will get added to by three others. I gave them free reign on colours and design. Maybe my simplicity and improv block will challenge them too? You know how I love to push people.

I would show you the block I received - lots of triangles in red, beige, and hunter greens - but its in the car. Yup, I'm lazy this morning. First winter storm combined with kids barfing all night and me with a cold. I am not leaving my house today. More time for sewing, painting, and stories.

Oh, and bear with me as I make some changes on the blog. I'm testing some new designs.

I think that's exactly what a round robin is for--to challenge each other and help us accept and embrace others styles. It has the potential to teach us respect.

I had to do a double take when your post popped up. Wait, is that Naptime Quilter? Change is good. Challenge is wonderful. Hope you are productive on your stay home day.

This sounds like a fun activity to do with the local guild. I love the block you started with, which should give the next person room to choose their own direction. Have fun with this. And hope you all feel better soon!

It will be fun to see what the others do with your block and what you do with theirs?

I've finally come up for air after preparing for and then decompressing from Little Winter for so long. I loved catching up on your posts here and over at the Mid Mod Quilt blog (I really dig some of what I see going on there). It was cool to read your take on parenting a few posts back, as well as the different approaches you and your SIL take towards quilting. There's room in this world for all of our different ways, I guess, and it's nice to allow ourselves to be influenced by others' points of view. I'm definitely not as easy going as I'd like to be (you've seen evidence of my anal retentivity in our apartment...), but I like to think that I can take a cue from people like you who are freer in their approach to things like their craft and in their parenting. My anal retentive side wishes you luck with the barf fest that's going on and hopes everyone feels better soon!
