Seriously, how do single parents do this all the time?
My whining done, I actually do have something to share. This was the tablecloth I made for Thanksgiving back in October. The rooster fabric is from Alexander Henry. Purchased at Quilt Canada this year its been sitting around and waiting for Thanksgiving. In honour of American Thanksgiving next week I thought I would share it with you. It makes me smile to look at it. Smiles are good things when ginger ale is the only thing on the menu.
Other things making me smile:
... playing my own little game of I Spy with this quilt around my arms
... the chaos of pompoms, pencil crayons, and blocks all over the floor
... my four year old's constant desire to wear her clothes backwards
... the two year old saying to me after playing in the snow, "Mama, let's go inside and have hot cocoa to make our feelings better."
... the cast of sunshine on the foot of fresh snow
Okay, so I guess there isn't that much to whine about.

why do we need to be happy and cheery and quilty all the time? it's not real! I hope your stomach is on the mend soon..nothing worse than a stomach bug. (try peppermint tea or chammomile if you have it...settles it)
I adore your two year old's comment about hot cocoa - it is something my little guys would say too, and it makes me realize how the little things we do mean big in their hearts.
Hello, I'm new to your blog, I got to it from your comments on "modern" quilting which were linked elsewhere, can't remember where now.
I like your commitment to sharing process and thinking about what you're doing with quilting, I find your posts thought-provoking.
And I like your style!
Sorry you and the household are under the weather and that you're on your own. I frequently wonder how single parents do it, and I only have a two-year-old so far. Glad you've got your reminders of good things to carry you through. That tablecloth is a great one.
I think you'll find us single mums would be in exactly the same mindset when dealing with all of the above! Snuggle and enjoy and extra hot cocao for the feelings! Hope you're feeling much better soon, keep on keeping on!
I am a single mom of 3 boys, and I've gotta say that I really look forward to my time every other weekend when my kids are at their dad's house. I still never get caught up, or even close to caught up, but it's nice to be able to just have a bit of time to regroup.
I hope you're feeling better soon!
During the raising of our children, my husband either worked two jobs, (meaning he was almost never at home) or worked a long 2nd shift with lots of overtime, (again, meaning he was almost never home). While I have always been thankful for his hard work in financially supporting our family, I often felt like a single mother, and had plenty of pity parties for myself. Add feeling sick to the mix, (and a foot of snow!) and life understandable feels pretty crappy.
But having the grace to still focus on those little bits of joy such as you have done here, (a grace that I did not always possess) is a wonderful thing, and I admire you for it.
Hang in there, toots. Take good care of yourself, and keep looking at those small bits of wonder... I suppose all added together, they sort of make an emotional patchwork quilt of comfort, that help get us through the hard days. Hugs xo
Ugh. All I can say is ugh. I hope your tummy is feeling well enough to have some of the cocoa your daughter is suggesting.
Oh dear! Tummy bug is the WORST! Hope things improve soon. It will get easier, I promise. That's a very pretty quilt.
Hope you're feeling much better soon, keep on keeping on!
Cheryl, hang in there. It sucks to be sick, I know. We suffered for the better part of this week with colds.
As for how do single parents do it day in and day out? I have no idea.
I don't know how single parents do it. But you can do it! Who needs a dishwasher anyway?
Your quilts are amazing.
Single parenting is really hard when you and the kids are well, so when you're all sick it's incredibly tough. My mother comes to stay with us when my husband goes away. I don't want to discover what would happen otherwise!
I was so anxiuos to know what my husband was always doing late outside the house so i started contacting hackers and was scamed severly until i almost gave up then i contacted this one hacker and he delivered a good job showing evidences i needed from the apps on his phone like whatsapp, facebook, instagram and others and i went ahead to file my divorce papers with the evidences i got,He also went ahead to get me back some of my lost money i sent to those other fake hackers, every dollar i spent on these jobs was worth it.Contact him so he also help you.
