Sigh

While you are enjoying the mediocre quality of the photo above, let me start my rant about iPhone photography. Just because you have an iPhone and you can get all the apps, like Camera Bag, to apply filters to your photos does not make you a creative photographer. Nor does it necessarily make you a good photographer.

I feel totally justified in my rant today because I broke my camera on Friday. An hour before The Monster's birthday party I dropped it. Sigh. So today I confirmed that the camera isn't worth fixing, the replacement one I wanted is currently sold out, and the SLR I really want is currently out of the budget. As I am completely incapable of living without a camera we picked up a little point and shoot.

Can I admit that I feel like kind of a loser with my little camera? Yes, I am that snobby. It feels like the camera a teenage girl usually has. Oh wait, that's not true. She has an iPhone and thinks she is some kind of photographer.

Now, I don't claim to be a great, or even good photographer. But I do love to try and learn with every time I turn on the camera. So, if you notice a change in the photos here, you know why.

In the meantime, the photo above was taken with my Blackberry. I had to snap the picture because I was in love with the colour combo of my outfit (royal blue and turquoise) and the necklace I picked up at Market Collective that day. Thank-you to White Owl Porcelain for this gorgeous sea urchin necklace. So delicate and pretty. It might make up for the broken camera.

I kinda understand...years ago our then 4yr old dropped our camera. While it was sent off under warranty, we had to use his fisher price camera & a disposable camera to take photos of his 1 year old brothers 1st birthday. Of course when we picked up the fixed camera we were told we could have had a loaner...

You soooo don't sound snobby. I feel the same way. My flash was in the shop over christmas and I had to buy a point n shoot to get through the holidays. I hate looking at those photos lol. BTW: I loooove your necklace. My dd is obsessed with the little mermaid and has been bugging me for a shell necklace to carry her voice around in ;)

So sorry your camera broke. It just makes me cringe.. Love your outfit and the necklace is gorgeous.

I'm the opposite - I LOVE my tiny point and shoot camera! I'm not a terribly clever photographer, and I'm too lazy to carry a big camera round with me, so having a really basic camera means that I actually do take some photos.

Of course, it does explain why all other bloggers take nicer pictures than me :)

iPhone photography has almost nothing to do with photography, and everything to do with accessibility. And a little to do with fun, camerabag and all. You should try it. Video is even better :) I am a lazy blogger, especially on my family blog. It's so much easier to sit and blog from my phone while feeding a baby in the wee hours of the morning :)

I would love to say something clever in this comment, but I will just ditto "corrinea" above.

SO sorry about the camera. UGH! I would be lost without mine.
I whole heartedly agree with your little rant. I too am sans I Phone but I do have to say I am a bit jealous of the rustic uniqueness of some of those photos. Darn you teenage girls!

I know this comment is redundant but I am so sorry about your camera.

Mine's a point and shoot and I always feel inadequate about my photos but I'm sure you'll make do with it. Just takes a little patience and usually a lot better lighting than one has access to all day, everyday. It's all in the timing. :-) Good luck!

Ooof... I feel for ya. Really though, the last 2 posts on your part are spectacular photography. I know... hit me because I'm not letting you whine on and on. You are so talented, that which camera you use will barely be noticed by the rest of us!

Oh... I meant to say the last 3 posts were spectacular photography.

I think you've got a post called "Catch Up" somewhere among the dozen or so posts that I just caught up on... I know how you feel.

I'm sorry to hear about the camera. I use a silly little point and shoot and drool over the quality of photos I see on others' sites. But I'm intimidated by the bigger, badder ones. Maybe the limitations of the one you're using will force you to be creative with it's simple littl lens. Or maybe you just need to get a new camera, and soon.

Oh no!
I am a camera snob, too. And it's okay. Do you just feel like not taking photos at all if you can't take good ones? Here's hoping the SLR fairy visits you one day... ;)
