Water Version 6

Continuing on with my Water quilt, I present v6.  When I did the initial layouts v4 was my favourite.  This is a bit of a change on that one.  I added the long strips of blue to separate the calm and the crazy sections.  And I made the center portion a little more hectic.

This layout initially struck me because it reminded me of my days as a competitive swimmer. 12 years in a pool will have an influence on you! Now, I'm only kind of meh about it.  Your thoughts?

(Apologies for the crappy photos this week.  The weather went from a late summer heat wave to decidedly fall and overcast yesterday.  Between that and Hubby mowing the lawn I was forced to use our king sized bed as a design wall.)

Thanks for the response to the Workshop in Progress! I'm hoping that the end of the long weekend here in North America will bring some more participants.  The first group is up there on the right.  Please take the time to post if you are participating and to visit and leave comments for the rest of you.  Your honest opinion delivered kindly is valued!

Your quilt is awesome. I definitely love the blue strips that separate the choppy water. What if you turned those strips into either v shapes -- one going one way, one going the other -- or in a diamond?

Hmm, I agree that I liked version 4 better and for me it may be the separating strips. I think for me to read water, then seeing the change in direction without demarcation (the blue strips) is key.

I like it! The strips on the diagonal is unexpected and keeps your eye moving around the quilt.

I have to agree with Marielle. I think the blue strips draw your eye away from the "movement" of the water. I really like the pieces in-between the strips.

I really like the movement of this piece but I have to say, I am definitely NOT a blue/green combo kind of girl. But then again, you are not making it for me!!!

I actually like it. I think it could be better if the strip in between the blue went at angle, so that the strips that are diagonal now are in line with the edge strips.

I like this version, but I prefer the less chaotic center portion of version 4.

I can see you churning away in your lane, Cheryl! It's not my favorite version; perhaps I'd like all the sections in the lane on the diagonal but I'm no competitive swimmer! lol

Initially, this was my favourite version, but having gone back and looked at them all, I think I'm liking v4 best but I'm struggling to say why! I think it is something to do with the flow of colour. The blue strips in v6 stand out strongly which draws me away from the way the colours in the strips flow and blend, which for me is the more interesting bit of the quilt. If that makes any sense!

i like the two blue strips, but i don't care for the blocks in the middle being on the diagonal for some reason. (i feel so inadequate to be giving you design ideas!)
