It Was a Good Idea

Oh, but how the execution sucked. This is why I don't make bags and things with lots of different, somewhat intricate ways of manufacture. Or maybe it is why I'm not one to sew anything but quilts.

I had this grand idea to make a special travel colouring book for the Monster for our upcoming Christmas vacation. Something new for the plane ride and something to keep markers contained.

It started with an idea, a pattern drafted, and some delicious fabrics. Somewhere between my brain and the sewing machine something went screwy. It looks great, but the markers fall out, it is too big for the chosen book, and it doesn't close tight enough to keep everything contained. Laying open and flat it is handy, but that's about it.

It's worth another shot, but not this week. We leave on Sunday and I have way too much to do. I think we'll just be putting the markers in a ziploc and the paper in the little backpack I bought her.

It's a VERY good idea! Too bad you aren't happy with it, but definitely worth another shot.

Have fun on vaca!

You are soooo hard on yourself! It's super cute and if it doesn't function... so what?! About half the crap out there on the market doesn't either. Plus, you made it for your big girl which just says something, doesn't it? How many kids never get a thing made by their mama? Have a great trip filled with peace and joy! You're terrific!

Found my way to your blog this morning from SewMamaSew. Congrats on winning the fat quarters. LOL, I thought I won until I clicked on your name to take me to your link. My name is Cheryl too. I think your coloring book marker holder came out quite fine. I say don't throw it out. Get a smaller pad book to fit the pad side properly. I also noticed where the markers are if you actually put a piece of fabric down that is sewed for each marker pocket, you will have more success with them not falling out. Love the fabrics you chose.
